Discussion
|
This course for registered nurses introduces the student to the nursing program's philosophy and organizing framework. Students discuss application of the nursing process in diverse settings, principles of health promotion, expansion of nursing roles, and aspects of critical thinking, as well as perspectives from nurse theorists, therapeutic communication, health teaching, and professional values. We examine our personal and professional perspectives of nursing and use a textbook written for RNs returning to school. We begin the semester with a review of the history of nursing by reading Notes on Nursing by Florence Nightingale. We continue our personal and educational explorations by reading Women's Ways of Knowing and From Novice to Expert. The seminar style of learning promotes a sense of community, where we support one another's efforts for educational, career, and personal success.
